*There is no additional charge for incursions if your school/community group is less than 20km from WA Wildlife (Bibra Lake). If your school/community group is more than 20km from WA Wildlife, we will invoice your school (after your session) $1.32 for each additional kilometre travelled.
Introduction
Our unique educational incursion experiences focuses on bringing wildlife and environmental learning directly into your classroom/community group. Through interactive presentations and hands-on encounters, students/attendees will have the opportunity to engage with birds, reptiles, and small marsupials, fostering a deeper understanding of wildlife and the environment.
Program Overview
During this incursion, our knowledgeable presenters will introduce students/attendees to a variety of native Australian wildlife species. Through engaging activities and live animal encounters, we aim to align the experience with elements of the school curriculum, such as biology, environmental studies, and connection to place.
Program Activities
1. Introduction and Overview:
- Our presenters will introduce themselves and provide an overview of the program.
- Students/attendees will learn about the importance of wildlife conservation, the unique ecosystems of Western Australia, and the work we do at WA Wildlife.
2. Interactive Presentations:
- Our presenters will engage students/attendees through interactive presentations, using visuals and props to enhance learning.
- Students/attendees will learn about the characteristics, habitats, and behaviours of birds, reptiles, and small marsupials found in Western Australia.
- Our presenters will highlight the importance of these species in the local ecosystem and discuss their conservation status.
3. Live Animal Encounters:
- Students/attendees will have the exciting opportunity to meet live birds, reptiles, and small marsupials brought to the classroom by our experienced handlers. These animals are humanised, 'wildlife ambassadors' (licensed for display and education).
- Our presenters will introduce each animal, providing interesting facts and insights into their adaptations, diet, and natural behaviours.
- Students/attendees will have the chance to observe and, when appropriate, interact with the animals under the guidance of our handlers.
4. Hands-on Learning Stations:
- Students/attendees can participate in hands-on learning stations designed to deepen their understanding of wildlife and the environment.
- Each station will focus on a specific aspect, such as:
- Exploring bird adaptations by examining feathers, beaks, and foot structures.
- Observing reptiles up close and learning about their unique characteristics.
- Understanding the life cycle and habitat requirements of small marsupials through interactive activities.
***Animals available will depend on the age group, availability and classroom set-up/environment.
5. Q&A and Reflection:
- Students/attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and engage in a discussion with our presenters.
- Our presenters will encourage students/atendees to reflect on their experience and share insights gained during the incursion.
- The importance of environmental stewardship and actions students/attendees can take to protect wildlife and their habitats will be emphasised.
